Dr. Joseph McGuire

OCTOBER 14, 1952 – FEBRUARY 8, 2014Peacefully and in the loving comfort of his home, Joseph passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Joe was the beloved husband of 35 years to Vivian (Cozzarini); devoted and cherished father to Antonia (Erik Fortier), Natalie (John Crupi), Kathleen and Lauren. Dearly loved son of Dr. Michael and Loretta McGuire (both predeceased) and wonderful brother to Frank (Toni), Kate (Brian McCarney), Jim (Fran), Des (Sue), Brian(Maria), Kevin(Lynne), Michelle(Guy) and Marcia(Pierre Beauchamp). Dear son-in-law to Erminio (predeceased) and Tina of Sudbury and loved brother-in-law to Carmen, Elio (Mary) and Lillian. A great mentor to his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joe was born and raised in Brockville, Ontario. A member of the Brockville Rowing Club winning School Boy Henley and Royal Canadian Henley medals representing Ontario at the Canada Summer Games in Nova Scotia. He received his BSc at the University of Western Ontario and Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Toronto. He was a dedicated and caring dentist; best friend and partner to his brother Dr. Brian McGuire. They founded the Hunt Club Dental Centre where they practised together for 33 years. Outdoor and sporting activities were his passion, especially, skiing, cycling, boating and hunting. He hosted innumerable family functions at his home in Ottawa and cottage on Big Rideau Lake. He was a beautiful and generous person. He will be remembered for his great wit, intelligence and fun loving ways. Joe was a man of great strength and devout spiritual faith. We are so blessed to have known him. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who were instrumental in providing care, friendship and comfort; Dr. Bill Splinter, Father Tom Riopelle, all his caregivers especially, Love, Modesta, Charles, Francis, Yared , Hani and Nayef; nurses and staff of CCAC, VHA and Qualicare. Visitation will be held at McEvoy Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Road, on Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and Saturday, February 15 from 9-10 am. A Memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on Saturday at 11am. Donations to the ALSWalk (Team-il Capitano) will be gratefully acknowledged.
