John Edward Duffy

Peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Beloved husband of Theresa for 68 years. Loving father of Daniel, Diane and Charles (Stephanie). Adored grandfather of Christopher, Michelle, Jodi, David, Adam, Mathew, Jessica, Patrick, William and Thomas; great-grandfather of Jena, Jessica, Marissa, Ava, Cade, Reid, Park, Tave, Henry and Theodore. Predeceased by his parents Francis Thomas Duffy and Lillian Doucette. John was married to Theresa on May 17, 1952 and joined the military the same year, which included 2 tours in Europe, Zweibruken and Lahr and he retired in Ottawa in 1979. In 1980, John started at Public Works and retired in 1991. John was a founding member of the Saint Patrick's Basilica Knights of Columbus, Council 12158 and was a 4th degree knight. He had a passion for baseball, the Expos and the Blue Jays especially; his knowledge of all sports was quite exceptional. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and Doctors of floor 4A at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa for the amazing and compassionate care given to John. Family and friends may attend a Funeral Mass on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 10:30 am at Saint Patrick`s Basilica, 220 Kent Street. Please be advised that Covid-19 precautions are still in effect; we respectfully request the 6 feet social distancing measures be observed inside and outside of the church. Interment at St. Bernard`s Cemetery, 3701 Albion Road (at D`Aoust Street). In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Lung Association or the Heart and Stoke Foundation would be appreciated.
