I have heard the sad news  (Nicole Bélecque) of John’s passing away.
Even though time shall heal the hurt it is not easy to let a companion of so many years go. 
We shall remember John’s funny jokes more over his generosity and he was always ready to help the other.

So sad to hear of John’s passing. He was a happy, outgoing, generous man who truly brightened the world wherever he went. John was always eager to lend his great baritone voice to our many musical projects over the years and could be counted on to lighten rehearsals with his infectious love of life and unfailing good humour. I am very sorry to hear of your loss and please accept my heartfelt condolences. I worked with john for many years and he was always a very kind and gentle soul.  His delight in life and his family and that twinkle in his eye were never absent. 

I was 14 or 15 when I first met John. Jane and I had slept at Ann’s apartment on Gloucester Street and we met John for breakfast on a Sunday morning then went for a walk on the Byward market. My first impression was he was that he was a tall guy with big hair and a deep voice. The first thing he asked me was what my favorite band was. I was embarrassed because I didn’t know much about music so I said Chris de Burgh because Ann had one of his albums. He approved.  To Ann, I offer my deepest sympathies, I love you like a sister Annie. 

Danielle, Chantale and Sophie. I am the youngest of a family of three daughters. I remember when I lost my dad 25 years ago. That was without a doubt, the saddest day of my life.  Hugs to you ladies.

My husband Patrick also sends his condolences to the family.

I will miss how he used to introduce me to people as his baby sister.

It was a great shock to learn that John had passed away. I hope it was a gentle passing. My memories of John are all good ones. He was always smiling, generous, willing to do  anything to help when needed. I enjoyed many of the baked goods he brought to the OCC for our coffee breaks. His singing voice was a great addition to the choir. He will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in the difficult days ahead.

I came to know John through my performances with the Maria Knapik groups. He was what I would call a character and I never really knew when he was pulling my leg. Look long and far and you won't find anyone who loves singing more. Maybe his loving duet partner..his wife.  I made the happy mistake of letting him sing with me once when I played my flute as a busker in the market. Encores followed over the seasons and I soon had to limit the number of tunes as he literally oozed out the true joy of participating in music making to unsuspecting market patrons.  He has changed the way I look at the gift we musicians who knew him have.

I had the great privilege of singing with John in the Trinity church choir. He was such a warm and wonderful man, with a great sense of humour and a wonderful booming voice. He had a gift for connecting with others, and would light up when he saw you like you were the most special person in the world. I’m going to miss him. My deepest condolences to Ann and all those whom John loves, may his spirit stay close to you as he rests in God’s care.

John and Ann were kind enough to play the starring roles of “Mr and Mrs God” in a sacred pageant I scripted in 2017,  I will never forget how perfectly he depicted a patriarch having to learn that the world does not revolve around him. Nor how much we learned about life as we worked together ... John, I’ll miss your very centred companionship in prayers.

My grandfather lived a great life. I can't remember a day when this man was sad, even when things were tough, he was there laughing, I believe that my grandfather would have wanted a ceremony for his death but not a sad one--a rejoiceful one where we sing and thank the Lord that he passed on rather peacefully. As a Christian family, we know that this is not the end of our connection with my grandfather, with prayer and memory my grandfather will always be with my spirit and the spirits of my family members.

Fondly remembering NJT meetings at your home and on my back deck with John.  The first time I met John was when he arrived for a meeting at my home in Old Ottawa South straight from work at Billings Bridge, carrying a fruit platter.  I also remember his beautiful voice from multiple choir performances at Southminster United Church.  Condolences to you Ann and family.

Dear Ann - so sorry to hear about John's passing. He and you have been such wonderful supporters and volunteers for Not Just Tourists - Ottawa over many years. I fondly remember the NJT lunch pot luck you hosted at your home. John had such a wonderful gift of the gab and a rich voice. I remember driving him home one day when he burst into a Christmas carol. He just about blew us out of the car from the back seat! We have many, many fond memories of you both. Warmest wishes to you and the family.

Very sad to hear that John has passed on..He was a friend that had a mutual love of music, and when I was on air at the station I worked at in Ottawa, John would often call up and  ask for silly songs to be played, and we would talk about music , tell jokes and he was always a welcome caller.  I will miss him, and regret that I still owe him a lunch at La Bottega restaurant where he treated me to  a nice lunch one time, and where he casually joked with the waitresses ,who obviously knew him and liked him, as did so many people I am sure. RIP buddy.

John, you will be missed for telling your interesting and sometimes silly stories.  You always had some pretty good "Dad jokes".  I'll miss your sense of humor.  We would talk for hours on the phone, keeping the family friendship going.  We always enjoyed buying lotto scratch offs together, vowing to share with each other if we hit the BIG ONE.  Rest easy John, and "God Bless You, Johnny".

John had such a big heart and personality. He enfused  joy into each choir rehearsal and tour.  I mostly remember Sicily and how he added to the adventure and laughter. My condolences to you, Ann, and family. I know he will be greatly missed but also leaves you with so many warm memories.

I am so sorry to learn that John has left our world but I take comfort in knowing that he rests in the arms of the Almighty. My thoughts, prayers and heart are with you,  Anne (and his family), now and on the road ahead until all of you are reunited in eternity. John was always someone who brought a smile wherever he went, so I imagine there is much joy and smilling around him in Heaven as he enjoys his celestial home. I’m sorry to hear of John’s passing. It seemed he just retired and was enjoying it immensely. Early days growing up in Manor Park and Alvin Heights  included a laughing and friendly John Amyot. Peace to him and his family. 

Such sad news to hear of John’s passing! I worked with John at CRA and he was always making everyone around him laugh. He always brought joy to my day.  May he Rest In Peace and condolences to his family.

He was the big brother I never had, even though he was younger. Not only did he have an impressive singing voice, he did the best imitation of a barking dog I've ever heard. He was kind and loving, a gentle giant, and one of the few true heroes who stood up to injustice. I'll miss him.

My big beautiful brother, I will miss you forever. You were always there for me. I wish I could have made this go away for you. I hoped that you would have been around longer. My hero when I was younger and my friend when I got older.
