Jeanne Marie St-Onge (née Behaegel), born October 1st, 1919 in Leuven Belgium, daughter of Pierre-Joseph Behaegel and Euphrasie Nachtegaele. Jeanne left us peacefully on November 9th, 2021 at home surrounded by her two children, Marc and Nicole, and her husband of nearly 67 years, Denis A. St-Onge (b. Ste-Agathe Mb May 11, 1929). Through her long and remarkable life, she touched many people. Her early career was as a dental surgeon in Versailles (France), Bruxelles (Belgium) and in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) – where the last ruling emperor, Haile Selassie, was one of her notable patients. Later she worked for the Canadian Council of Arts and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in Ottawa (Canada). It was in Addis Ababa that Jeanne met Denis as a patient in the summer of 1954. They were married in Addis on January 5th, 1955, beginning nearly 67 years of a loving and devoted marriage. She has spread her wisdom widely through her children and three grandchildren, Colette, Robert, and Patrick, and numerous friends who remember her exceptional hospitality and warm kindness. At a later date, the family, including children and grandchildren, will meet to remember the life of the remarkable Maman, Grand-maman and wife that Jeanne was and to whom we all owe more that words can express. The family wishes to thank Dr. Marie-Josée Bordeleau and Dr. Marie-Josée Klett for years of kind and considerate care over many years. More recently, Olivier has greatly helped the family during a difficult final stage.
