After a long struggle with congestive heart failure, Helen passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, ICU on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Daughter of the late Natalie and George Kodak and sister of predeceased brother Boris, she will be sadly missed by her sister Irene and brother Ihor. Helen was an attentive and caring aunt to nieces Lisa Regan, Nadia, Marina, Olena Kodak and nephews Steve, Paul and Taras Kodak. Helen was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and for many years took an active part in the Canadian/Ukrainian community. In 1969 she travelled to her homeland to visit her extended family in Poltava. Her great aunt Tamara Korol will miss her greatly. Helen worked for PMRA of Health Canada for 30 years and in her spare time took courses at the Ottawa School of Art to hone her true passion. Friends may pay their respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Rd (at Albion Road) on Thursday, and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. with Panahyda at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will commence at 10 a.m. Saturday April 9, 2011 in the Chapel.
