Gordon Harry Frederick Avery, of Ottawa, ON, passed away at 88 years old on July 2, 2023, in Ottawa, ON. He was born September 9, 1934, in Toronto, ON to parents Gordon Chauncey Herman Avery and Elizabeth Avery (nee Topley).
He will be missed by his loving partner , Wined Candler and her family, and by his son Gordon Timothy Avery (Debbie), and his grandchildren Nathan Avery (Nicole) and Samantha Avery and by many friends and neighbours in his community.
Gordon worked for 35 years at Revenue Canada, retiring in 1994. He was a proud co-founder of the Queenswood Heights Slo-Pitch Association in Orleans, ON, captaining his team The Cobras. He loved to play slo-pitch and also to umpire various levels of recreational slo-pitch, softball or fastball. Gordon also volunteered for several years with Scouts Canada in Orleans.
In later years he enjoyed watching Toronto Blue Jays games on television. Gordon was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, square dancing, playing cards (especially bridges and euchre) and was never shy to greet anyone he saw while taking his daily walks with Wined; they made many acquaintances this way in their neighbourhood.
He always looked forward to visits from out of town by his family.
He will be greatly missed.
In order to honour Gordon's wishes, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place.
In honour of his memory, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
