Doug was a very loving husband to Judith (Frégeau) for 33 years, father to Patrick (Jasmine Nguyen) and Eric (Warsame Ali) and brother to Leslie Reid (George Hollinworth). He was also a great brother-in-law, never failing to support Johanne (deceased) and Martine. He will also be missed by the rest of the Frégeau family: Roch, Chantal (Rémy Aubin) and Hélène (Dominique Echeverri). He will be fondly remembered by his nephews and nieces: Edmund and Guy Hollinworth, Andréa and Simon Frégeau, Stéphane Aubin and Jean-François and Isabelle Echeverri. Doug is also remembered and mourned by several cousins from his extended family.
Doug was predeceased by his parents John Cornelius Reid and Theresa Bastien.
Doug was a faithful friend to Craig Watson (England) keeping in touch for over 40 years. Doug will also be remembered by friends and neighbors on Calumet Island (QC), birthplace of his maternal grandmother Charlotte Bastien (nee Cahill), where his family has been spending summers for almost 50 years.
Doug was an active and enthusiastic scout leader for over 10 years while his boys were growing up and there are memories of campfires and winter camping that his sons will cherish forever.
Doug was a successful systems engineer in telecommunications. He was “tinkering” in radios and electronics as a very young child, and pursued his studies at the University of Ottawa, graduating with his M.Sc. in Engineering. Working for over 40 years in the field, Doug spent 20 years doing research and innovative work with Bell Northern Research/Nortel. He finished his career with Eion Inc. where he was an important contributor to the success of the company. Doug was also a full-time professor for 5 years at Algonquin College where he continued to teach on a part-time basis throughout the years. Many colleagues, students, and friends from all those years will remember him fondly.
Considering present circumstances, a celebration of Doug’s life is planned for a later time when family and friends can safely come together on Calumet Island to remember him, likely in summer 2021, Covid permitting.
