I was devastated to learn yesterday of  Diane’s passing. My sincere condolences to her family. We were friends a life time ago  while we were both in Air Cadets.  She was a true spirit that I admired!   I kept meaning to reach out  to re connect!  Life is too short.  Hold on to all the positive memories, she was a beautiful person! 

So very sorry to hear of Diane's passing. My deepest condolences go to all of you.  I knew Diane from 650 Vanier Air Cadet days.  RIP Diane.

I tried to find the photos of our move to the new school, your mom was leaning over a box and it was chaos but she is smiling. I saw her years later in Iqaluit, fragile and not sure who I was. Those two memories were of a very different person. I feel she, and all of you, are now at peace. 

I am so sorry to hear of Diane's passing. I worked with her in Iqaluit. Thinking of her family at this difficult time.

 I remember a Cambridge Bay story when she told me about the time your family was in the middle of a move and she woke up to a blizzard on a school day. She realized  she left her lesson plan book at the old house and had to hike back to the old house before school. She was in a rush because the phone hadn’t been moved to the new house, so she couldn’t call anyone to let them know she’d be late.

The blizzard was so bad she couldn’t see and ended up missing the house. What saved her from wandering off into the tundra was your old Christmas tree! It had been thrown out on the land between your house and the neighbours. When her shins hit the tree, she realized her mistake. She turned around, and used the tree as a landmark to reorient herself. Then she carefully angled herself to the side of the house. 

Once she got a hand on the side of the house, she used it to feel her way around to the front door. She got the door open and the phone was ringing. She answers the phone to be told, ‘School’s closed because of the blizzard. Stay home today.’ 

I can still see Diane rolling her eye as she told me. This is just one of her adventures; but I hope it adds a fond memory.

Dear Nick and Alex, and family, my heart broke upon hearing of the passing of Diane. I will always remember her not only as a colleague at Kiilinik High, where I first met her, but as a very dear friend, and fellow adventurer.  We got our flat water kayaking certificates together in Cambridge Bay, and spent many hours out on the waters of the Bay, Starvation Cove, and the lakes behind Ovayok — Mt. Pelly. We had so much fun together out on the land, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, camping — in tents and at our cabins….. We shared many meals together in each others homes, and she was my go-to hairdresser while living in the Arctic. Any time I needed it, she would be there to touch up my roots. After I left the north, she came to visit me for a few weeks weeks over two summers, and our adventures continued. 
One thing I loved about Diane, was her adventurous spirit. She wasn’t fearless, but she overcame her fears, and nerves, and went off on various adventures on her own, whether it was joining a kayaking trip in Ontario, or hiking Gros Morne in Newfoundland. 
I have missed Diane over the past several years, and will always treasure her friendship, and our time together. 
Please accept my condolences in this time of grief and sorrow. You are all in my heart and prayers.

I will always remember teaching your mom  how do “wet exits” at the small summer pool in Ikaluktutiak (Cambridge Bay), our weekend and evening paddling excursions. I recall her adventurous spirit and how she enjoyed the outdoors. This is my memory of her that I wish to share.
