Son of the late William and Gertrude (née Edwards) Rumbold and half-brother of the late Winnifred. Husband of Ruth (née Thompson) and of the late Audrey (née Solly). Father of Matushka Yvonne Lysack (Fr. Maxym), Joanne "Rivkah" Shabsove (Joseph), and Ian Rumbold. Grandfather of Jacqueline “Chava” Fine (Dovid), Anastasia "Tasya" Lysack (Zacchaeus Laliberté), Yuliana Lysack, Véronique Rumbold, and Cédrik Rumbold, and great-grandfather of Chava and Dovid’s children.
Dave was born in East Clandon, near Guildford, Surrey, England. As a young man, he graduated as a mechanical engineer. He and Audrey married in 1956 and, two years later, emigrated to Canada, where Dave worked on the famed Avro Arrow project. After the latter was halted, Dave joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. Postings to Europe followed, and Dave always ensured that his family fully enjoyed the cultural experience of living abroad.
An expert marksman, Dave was a frequent competitor at rifle shooting events in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s and was many times a member of the Canadian team at the annual competitions at Bisley, England. He was a Senior Life Governor of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association and a former President of the National Defence Head Quarters Rifle Association.
After Audrey’s death in 2022, Dave found love again with Ruth, a fellow resident of his retirement home, and the couple were able to enjoy five months of happy marriage before his passing.
Private service of burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery, 1890 Merivale Road, Ottawa.
