Alma Serrette

1933-2024

Alma Serrette, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in Ottawa, ON. She is preceded in joining the Lord by her mother, Olga, and brothers, Stanley and Joseph. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family, especially by the Hong Ting, Soo Ting and Thissen families, her friends, former colleagues and parishioners of Holy Cross Parish.

Born in Trinidad, Alma came to Canada in 1971. She became a certified nurse's aide and worked for many years with dedication and compassion at St. Patrick’s Home. Hers was a life of caring for others. Although she had no children of her own, she raised the children of others with patience, devotion and love. She was fiercely independent and also gentle and kind, often showing her affection with creations from her kitchen. Her faith sustained her, particularly during times of difficulty and illness. Her enthusiasm for life and the love and care that she showed others will live on in all who knew and loved her.

A special thank you to the medical, care and social work teams at the Queensway Carleton Hospital where Alma spent nearly four months.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 5 at 11 AM at Holy Cross Parish on Walkley Road. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
