Jean passed away suddenly at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) following surgery on October 18, 2016 at the age of 93. She is sorely missed by her three sons, Brian (Doris), Robert and John. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack (2010) and her sisters, Margaret and Eva. She is survived by her brother, David. Jean was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on March 4, 1923. She had an active youth that involved competitive swimming, summers at Emma Lake, singing in the choir and United Church activities. She worked in Winnipeg during the turmoil of the Second World War, and married Jack in Winnipeg in 1949. She had four boys (Joseph died at birth) and moved around Canada on various Air Force postings, settling in Ottawa. Jean was known for her humour, integrity, strength, profound sense of fairness to everyone, and her inability to say no to good ice cream. She lived an independent life on her own terms, in her own house until the end. The family would like to sincerely thank the many doctors, nurses and other care workers at the General Hospital who cared for Jean during her short stay there. The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 2-5 pm. Funeral Service at Hawthorne United Church, 2244 Russell Road, Ottawa on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 12 Noon with a reception to follow at the church. In memoriam donations to the charity of one`s choice would be appreciated.
