He was born December 18, 1941 in Elmira, New York the son of the late Glenn and Frances Morrell.
On June 24, 1967, Ron married Shirley VanValkenburgh in Davenport. Shirley predeceased him on November 28, 2012.
For many years, Ron was a mechanic at the East End Texaco and then at Ward’s Shell Station until his retirement.
Ron has been a member of the Otego Fire Department since moving to Otego in 1967. In the late 1970’s, Ron was the Otego Justice of the Peace. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #277 in Sidney.
He enjoyed listening to country music. But most of all, Ron was a family man. He enjoyed traveling upstate to visit his family and he loved spending time with his family especially going to watch his grandchildren playing sports and every night from 7:00 to 8:00 pm spending “wifey time” with his love, Shirley.
Ron was a people person. No matter where it was that he went he enjoyed talking with everyone. Ron’s family would like to thank the nurses at Bassett Healthcare in Oneonta, “the girls” at Head to Toe and Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care for all of their wonderful kindness given to Ron he enjoyed his many visits with all of you.
Ron is survived by his two daughters, Debbie DeSilva and Kevin Smith of Oneonta and Sharon Murwin and fiancé, Jerry Lester of Otego; four grandchildren, Jarrett and Jenna DeSilva of Oneonta, Randy Murwin and fiancé, Amy Hotaling of Otego and Stephanie Murwin and fiancé, Michael Dougherty of Afton; one sister, Ginny Carmel of Orlando, FL; one sister-in-law, Nonnie Morrell of Romulus; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Robert, Richard, Roger, Glenn, Leroy, Wanda and Joyce.
A Celebration of Life for Ronald and Shirley Morrell will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2:00PM at the Loyal Order of Moose, West Broadway, Oneonta. Memorial donations in memory of Ronald B. Morrell may be made to either the Otego Emergency Squad or the Otego Fire Department, River Street, Otego, New York 13825 or to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, New York 13820.
