John H. Schumacher, 75, of Yoder, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at Hospice Home. He was born October 24, 1940 in Readlyn, Iowa to the late Clarence John and Luceal Caroline (Wehling) Schumacher. Through his career he taught, did apartment maintenance, worked at Fort Wayne National Bank, worked as an accountant and tax preparer. He retired from Continental International as an accountant. He met his wife, Carol, of almost 53 years, at Concordia Teacher’s College, River Forest, Illinois and they were wed December 29, 1962 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, reading, singing, and was considered an expert on genealogy, working on many genealogy projects. He was a member, along with his daughter, Deborah, of the Sounds of Hope Choir European Tour in 1988. He graduated from Readlyn High School in 1958 and received his associate’s degree in accounting from IPFW in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Buesching) Schumacher of Yoder; daughters, Dawn (Chuck) Webb of Lexington, KY, Deborah Schumacher of Fort Wayne, and Darlene Schumacher of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, Mary and Makenzie Webb of Lexington, KY; and sister, Leeann Toomey of Waukesha, WI. Funeral service will be at 10 AM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 8824 North State Road 1, Ossian, IN 46777 with visitation 1 hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the church. Rev. Jeff Springer will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, with the committal service beginning at 2 PM on Wednesday. Preferred memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or New Hope Lutheran Church.
