David H. Jesse, 78, of Ft. Wayne, greeted the New Year by shedding his earthly vessel for an eternal one early January 1, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital following a lengthy illness. At his side when he passed was his adoring and doting wife, Ila whom he married 56 years ago.
Born March 15, 1932 in Ft. Wayne, David was the second of four sons born to Herbert and Kathryn (Sellers) Jesse of Ft. Wayne. David graduated from Ossian High School and the International Business College. He married the love of his life, Ila Schaefer on May 2, 1954.
It was David’s dream to farm the Jesse homestead near Ossian but instead spent most of his career in the agriculture business working for Farm Bureau CoOp, Central Soya, Wyandot Popcorn, and Central States, and in retirement for National Tube Form and Avis Budget.
Dave and Ila were busy raising their five children but always had time to actively serve their local church, children’s school system and activities. In addition, Dave enjoyed travelling with his wife and was antique car enthusiast and member of the Old Fort Model A Club, participating with his own 1929 Model A pickup truck.
In addition to being survived by his wife, Ila, he leaves five children; David (Cindy) of Louisville KY, Dann (Mary) of Clyde, NC, Jill Ann of Indianapolis, Duane (Carol) of Cortland, OH, and Dennis of Powell, OH, six grandchildren; Drew, Adam, Anne, Drake, Aaron and Heather; a brother, William of Ossian; and a sister in law, Sue Jesse of Ft. Wayne. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Herbert and Thomas.
Friends and family may pay their respects Monday, January 3, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 at the Elzey Patterson Rodak Funeral Home, 120 west Mill St. Ossian, and one hour before the memorial service 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 4 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church 8010 West Jefferson Blvd. Ft. Wayne, the Rev. Martin Gehring, Pastor, presiding.
