Margaret Shutka, died peacefully on Thursday, January 26th, 2017 at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa, at the age of 91. Margaret was born on January 5th, 1926 in Portadown, Northern Ireland, the only daughter of Francis and Margaret (nee O’Donnell) McAree. Predeceased by her three brothers Frank (killed in WWII), Edward (heart attack at age 42) and Dr. Christopher (heart attack at age 82). Loving wife for 56 years of Daniel Shutka, decorated War Hero and retired School Principal (passed March 9th, 2002). Margaret will be lovingly missed by her six children Donna (Paul) Lonergan, Dianne (Vic) Dyke, Daniel (Jewel), Desmond (Marie), Deborah (John) Kiriopoulos, Denise (Mike) Holden. Grandmother to nine grandchildren and great grandmother to several great grandchildren. In her younger years, Margaret was very involved in her community as Past President of Courtice Home and School, Past Chairwomen of Oshawa General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, which she serviced as a volunteer for 22 years, Past Member of St. Mary of the People Parish – Catholic Women’s League (she was very proud to share her experience and trip to Rome. She also served with the Legion of Mary as a volunteer during WWII; she was an active member of the Residents Council of the Court of Brooklin, Frost Manor in Lindsay and Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa. As per Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held at ST. GREGORY THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH (194 Simcoe St. N., Oshawa) on Thursday, March 9th at 10:00 a.m. Her ashes will rest in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum beside her beloved husband Daniel (Together Forever).
