Linda emigrated from England to Canada by steamship in 1969 with her husband William (“Bill”) in search of opportunity, first settling in East York before moving to Oshawa in 1975 to raise a family. Remaining with her devoted husband Bill for 49 years until his passing in 2016, Linda will also be dearly missed by her son Brian of East York and daughter Sarah of Oshawa.
Linda is also the dear sister of John (Pamela) and Alan (Mary) and was predeceased by her parents George and Lucy and her sister Christine.
Qualified as an elementary school teacher in England, Linda became the successful owner of a small business in Whitby, Bright Beginnings Nursery School, where she was also a teacher. In her retirement she volunteered at the Parkwood National Historic Site in Oshawa, and with the Lakeridge Health Auxiliary.
Linda lived her life quietly, yet with joy, optimism and enthusiasm, making many friends along the way with her sharp wit, keen intellect, and zest for life. She enjoyed letter-writing, gardening, and reading, watching and writing English mysteries, usually with her cat Rosie by her side. Linda remained proud of her heritage until the end, her calendar marked with English holidays to celebrate with decorations around the house and her home-baked English treats.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Durham Humane Society or another animal charity of your choice would be appreciated.
