Peacefully, with his loving family at his side, on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the Lakeridge Health – Oshawa in his 89th year. Predeceased by his Father (William), Mother (Jane), sisters, Meta, Margaret, Elvie, Bessie, and brother, Henry. Beloved husband to Blanche for over 67 years. Loving father to Gordon (Sherry), Barry (Monica), Rick (Debbie), and William. Cherished Grandpa to Christopher, Arielle, Shelly, Sean, Mark, and Eric, and Great-Grandpa to Braelynn, Teegan, Trinity, and Paxton. Joseph will be missed and lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Born in Brookfield, Newfoundland, he started work on the Fishing Schooners at age 11. From there, he progressed through the years working on Coastal Schooners and then earned the position of Chief Engineer of the Robert J. Knickle, which he said was the ship that held his fondest memories. After moving to Ontario with his family in the 1960s, he obtained employment as an Ironworker for Local 721 and remained there until his retirement.
Visitation will be held at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, Oshawa, on Monday, August 23, from 4-7 p.m.
