Helen A Langley

It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Helen, on January 15, 2013 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Despite increasing health issues, Mom remained fiercely independent, continuing to drive and live in her home.

Helen was born on October 15, 1929 in Shelburne, Ontario to John and Bessie (Gifford) Cameron. She is predeceased by her sister, Doris Hulton, and her brothers, Jack and William Cameron. On July 31, 1948, Helen married Douglas Langley and they were happily married until Doug’s unexpected death in April, 2002. Helen was devoted to her husband and children, Mark (Linda) Langley of Blackstock and Susan (Ray) Abermann of Qualicum Beach, BC and her grandchildren, Todd (Aurora) Langley, Ian (Leslie) Langley, Collin Staples and Douglas Staples.

As a young mother, Mom actively participated in Home & School activities, worked as a census taker, and acted in electoral officer roles for many years. As her children got older, Mom took great pride in jobs which she held with the Canadian Mental Health Association and the local radio station as well as her graduation from high school as a mature student. Her volunteer career started when Dad retired, supporting annual events at Fairview Lodge and earning her 20-year service pin as a dedicated volunteer with The Auxiliary at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Mom was a talented artist, had a wonderful sense of humour, loved to read and garden, enjoyed learning to golf and travelling to BC and other destinations. Family and close friends could always count on Mom’s unconditional loyalty to those she loved and they will miss her more than she could ever know.

Many thanks to the staff of 6G and the Rehab department at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their excellent care and sensitive support of Mom’s desire to return home. A Private Family Service was held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234). Interment Thornton Cemetery. Memorial donations to Lakeridge Health Oshawa Cancer Centre would be appreciated.
