On Monday, December 7, 2020, Virginia Pearson passed away at Halifax Hospice following a short illness. Virginia was born in Chicago, IL to Art and Ella Sorenson. She graduated from Proviso East High School in 1940. On July 3, 1943, she married a handsome member of the Army Air Corps, Ken Pearson, who she had met at a USO function the summer before. Together, they raised three children, Jeanne, Wayne and Cheryl. The family moved to Florida in 1962, where Virginia and Ken ran Bryant Furniture in Holly Hill for many years. Virginia also worked for Kane Furniture (Kalin Furniture) until her retirement.
Virginia was a lady of many talents. She took dance lessons from an early age and performed throughout the Chicago area in her teens, often with her brother, Harvey. Growing up during the Great Depression and World War II, she learned to sew her own clothing at an early age and became an expert seamstress, making everything from clothing to costumes to curtains throughout her lifetime. Believing no family dinner was complete without dessert, she made countless cakes and cookies for family dinners and holidays that never lasted long. And always up for an adventure, she traveled the world visiting over 40 countries, but her favorite visits were with her family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, brother, Harvey, daughter, Jeanne and son-in-law Tom. She is survived by children, Wayne (Shirley) Pearson, Cheryl (Monty) Coxwell, and grandchildren, Kevin (Angie) McGuire, Greg (Lisa) McGuire, Kathy (Rodney) Hasburgh, Erik Pearson, Kenny (Katie) Parkman, Corey Green (Amy), Tyler Green (Bethany), Summer (Brandon) Moore, and great grandchildren, Brett McGuire, Dylan Pearson, Jackson McGuire, Abby, Evie & Lawson Green, Cole Hasburgh, Lauren McGuire, Grady and Sawyer Green.
The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to those who cared for her during her illness, including Chastity Scarbough, and the Life Guidance team at Atria, Port Orange, with special thanks to Christy, and the caregivers at Halifax Hospice Port Orange. Arrangements are under the care of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach.
Due to the current Covid-19 situation, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. If you would like to send a remembrance, the family welcomes donations to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ ) or your favorite veterans association as our mother always held “the boys (and girls) overseas” close to her heart.
