Patricia J. Nelson

Patricia Joan Nelson, 89, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on July 20, surrounded by her family and special caregivers. Patty or Pat was born in 1933 in New Smyrna Beach. Daughter of Leonard and Muriel Mosby, she was the youngest of five siblings raised in Oak Hill, FL. She graduated from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1951 and for the following six years worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

In 1959, Patricia married Merrill Dean Nelson in Daytona Beach. Dean was a Stetson Law School graduate and they soon moved to Ocala where he worked for a local law firm. They then moved back to the Daytona area in 1960 where Dean established his own private law practice and lived in Holly Hill and finally Ormond Beach for 56 years. Their beachfront condo in Satellite Beach was a frequent weekend getaway for the family, as well.

Patricia was a kind and loving soul whose warm heart was felt by many. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her close-knit family, siblings and dear friends. Over the years, she hosted many gatherings for everyone, loving to make her specialty meals and desserts. These events were always a treat for all. She will be dearly missed and will forever be remembered as the best wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

Predeceased by her husband Dean, Patricia is survived by her daughter Jennifer Poorbaugh (Steve) of Indian Harbour Beach, grandchildren Laura (Ben) and Connor. Also son Brian (Lori) of Ormond By The Sea and grandchildren Nick and Emily. In her final months, she was blessed to have four wonderful caregivers, Cevi, LaTisa, Paris and Mercedes who will always mean so much to our family.

Funeral Services Saturday, August 26th 11am at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home with interment to follow at Volusia Memorial Park
