Lena Paternoster Cutillo passed away on September 13, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born to Joseph and Irene Paternoster on April 26, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York.
Lena, the youngest of seven children, attended elementary and high school in Brooklyn, New York. She worked as a secretary at Hanover Insurance Company after high school. A few years later, she met the love of her life at a social dance club called “The Dew Drop Inn” and married him, Joseph Cutillo, on April 18, 1954.
They moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1955, where they raised their four children. Lena and Joe Cutillo were among the founding members of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Lena was a woman of great faith and prayed daily. She was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles, ceramics, sewing clothes, and exercising. She loved family holidays and birthday celebrations and was an excellent cook, especially in Italian cuisine.
Lena was a homemaker until her children were in school. Then, she had various part-time jobs with Avon, Elementary School Cafeterias, the Butterfly Gift Shop, and Burdines. From 1987 until her retirement in 2002, she worked full-time at Daytona Beach Community College as an administrative assistant. She earned an Associate of Science Degree in Office Systems and Word Processing in 1995.
Lena is survived by her three daughters, Joanne Hanley, Orlando, FL; Irene Lipsey, Ormond Beach, FL; Karen Danyluk (Rex), Los Angeles, CA; and her son Joseph Cutillo (Michelle), Tampa, FL. Her nine grandchildren also survive her: Laura Hanley, Sarah Hanley, Mario Lipsey, Victor Lipsey, Shaun Alex Lipsey, Kyla Danyluk, Troy Danyluk, Bradley Cutillo, and Caroline Cutillo. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Cutillo, her parents, Joseph and Irene Paternoster, and her three brothers and sisters.
A visitation for Lena will be held Friday, September 22, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in the chapel, Ormond Beach, Florida, immediately followed by a Catholic Mass. Lena will be laid to rest in Volusia Memorial Park, Ormond Beach, Florida. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at the Dignity Memorial building at Volusia Memorial Park.
