John Lester Smith

John Lester Smith, 69, of Ormond Beach passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Florida Memorial Hospital. John was born in Baltimore MD son of Lester and Gladys Smith. He honorably served as a Sgt.in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After he was discharged in 1972 John joined the Department of Defense where he worked as a Police Officer until his retirement. His hobbies included jumping out of airplanes, bowling and golf. In addition he loved to travel and took many cruses. His last one was to Alaska and that completed his journey with his wife; stepping foot in all 50 states. He also enjoyed camping and raising miniature Schnauzers. He was predeceased by his wife Anita who passed in January, his son John L Smith Jr. and his brother George Struck. He is survived by his brother-in-law, William Arthur Orange and his wife Wanda and a host of friends. A Celebration of John’s Life will be 11:00 am Monday, April16, 2018 at Tomoka United Methodist Church 1000 Old Tomoka Road Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
