Joan Carole Ellis, age 83, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away at her home on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, with all her loved ones there for her as she made her transition to her heavenly home. Joan was born August 3, 1938.
Joan was married to her wonderful husband, Donald Gerald Ellis for 58-1/2 years and was preceded in death by him in January 27, 2016. Joan was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to a loving, beautiful sweet mother and her name was Irene Geraldine Paulsen Osman and her father's name was Sylvester Osman.
Joan had 4 children, she was the dear mother to Pamela J (Mark) Strama, Dawnette (John) Mullen. Joan was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Kelly White; son, Marcus J Ellis (his partner Jeannean Hood (mother to his 2 boys) who is preceded in Joan's passing.
Joan and Donald had 6 grandchildren, Eric McGovern, Kristin Sayre, Kayla Mullen, Christopher White, Ethan Ellis and Aiden Ellis; 2 great-grandchildren, Veronica McGovern Dohm and Aiden White Ball; 1 great-grandchild, William T Dohm.
Joan has many nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved dearly and children that she would have wished that they were her own. Naming Linda Lacates, Bobbie Beardsley, Thomas Wilhelm, Richard Wilhelm, Bruce Ellis and Michael Jacobs (our built in brother).
Joan and her mother moved to Arizona after she turned 6 years old, and then they went to Miami, Florida, which is where she learned to speak Spanish. They then moved to Holly Hill, Florida, where she attended Holly Hill Elementary School. Joan graduated Mainland Senior High School in 1956 Cum Laude. She was very active with her school mates her whole life. She worked with her mother, Irene, at their restaurant while going to school as Stetson University. She also worked as a soda jerk at Thompson's pharmacy next to Baily's at a 5 &10 store on Granada in Ormond Beach. She also worked at Walgreens on North Beach Street in downtown Daytona. She worked part time at Sears also as a salesgirl.
Joan was active in what she believed in. She involved herself in city problems, she worked with the City Commissioner, Joe Thompson on the sidewalk for Hand Avenue. Joan also worked as a Mary Kay distributer. And she finally held a job at Publix in the Deli and doing food demonstrations at Publix.
Joan and Don brought their family up in the Methodist church. She loved playing the piano and singing. She loved animals and was always rescuing birds and squirrels. She was an organic gardener.
A gathering of family and friends for Joan will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Voluisia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, Florida. Following the gathering of family and friends will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM at Volusia Memorial Park, 548 N Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, Florida.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Joan's honor to an animal rescue of your choice.
