Janice Lucas Newman 72, a resident of Ormond Beach went home to be with The Lord Thursday, October 23, 2014. She was born on October 25, 1941 in Lavalette, WV, to Charles and Hazel Lucas. Janice and her late husband, Jim, retired to the Ormond Beach area in 1998 from Lexington, KY. Mrs. Newman was a member of Volusia County Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and stay at home mother. In her retirement, she loved to travel and shop. She could always find the best bargains. Janice was married 51 years to her husband, James D. Newman, who preceded her to Heaven by 11 days. Also preceding her passing was her father Charles Thomas Lucas, sister Tammy Jo Lucas Tooley and nephew Steve Lucas. What a reunion that was! Survivors include her mother Hazel Followay Lucas, daughters Lisa Newman of Winter Park, FL and Deena (Mark) Wesley of Lexington, KY; brothers Tom (Karen) Lucas of Lavalette, WV and Greg Lucas of Lexington, KY. Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren Kori, Kyle, and Konnor of Lexington, KY, 8 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nieces and nephews. A visitation will take place Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 in the chapel of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach, FL from 1:00-2:00 pm; with funeral services to follow at 2:00 pm. Pastor John Reynolds of Volusia County Baptist Church, Orange City will officiate. Burial will be held immediately following at Volusia Memorial Park, Ormond Beach, FL.
