home on Friday evening, November 3, 2023, at Halifax Hospice Center.
Jim was born in Coatesville, PA, on April 16, 1926, the 5th of 10 children to Lewis and
Elizabeth (Phipps) Trott. A determined young man, Jim worked on the railroad at age 14
and proudly enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. He was a decorated WWII veteran who
fought valiantly in D-Day, then afterward, chose to defend our country in the Pacific Theatre
as well. Jim was called to the helm to steer the USS Harding on his 19th birthday, as the
destroyer was being attacked by a Kamikaze plane. In 2014, Jim was awarded the
prestigious French Legion of Honor Medal.
Jim later graduated from business school and developed his real estate and construction
business in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He retired in 1983, and moved to Ormond Beach,
Florida.
Most noteworthy was Jim's commitment to his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Jim's
major concern in life was the souls of the individuals around him. He wanted everyone to
know that this life is very temporary, and that the next life is the only one that matters. Jim
wanted everyone to hear the only way to Heaven...by trusting in the saving grace of Jesus
Christ alone. Jim shared these Biblical truths with all who would listen, whether it be
telemarketers, in the bus ministry, the Gideons, as a Sunday School Director and teacher,
and on mission trips to Honduras and Brazil. Jim's compassion for the sick led him to
faithful visits in hospitals and nursing homes. He was a long-time member of First Baptist
Church of Daytona Beach.
Jim had an exemplary but humble prayer life. He spent much time each day praying for
the needs of so many people through the years. Even at the age of 97 while cancer
attacked his body, Jim continued to pray on the phone with those in need.
Jim was married to the love of his life, Heretta (Klemm), for 73 years. They have one
daughter, Sandra Anderson, two grandchildren, Ryan (Chelsea) Anderson, and Stefanie (Ray)
D'Amico.
Together they have six great-grandchildren, Allayna, Audrina, and Dominic D'Amico, and
Kendal, Kamryn, and Kinsley Anderson. They have been blessed with a host of wonderful
friends as well.
All are invited to Jim's Life Celebration Service at First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach,
on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 12 noon. Visitation will begin at 11 am. Military honors
and Interment will be held at Volusia Memorial Park following the service
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.volusiamemorialfunerals.com for the Trott family.
