James 'Jim' Orvel Bergeron, age 80, of Daytona Beach, died in the morning hours of November 28th, 2011. Born January 13th, 1931 to the late Arthur Leo and Dorothy Alma Bergeron, James was raised in a boys home with his brother from the age of 10. Among his jobs was time working on the Alaskan pipeline and several years working as a Merchant Marine in the Jacksonville shipyards, before moving to Daytona to work as head of maintenance for Halifax hospital until his injury in 1988. He was an avid reader, a skilled poker and billiards player, an avid gardener, fisherman and an intelligent conversationalist. He was a kind-hearted man, who would do anything he could to help and support his friends and family. He loved the outdoors, and the freedom of driving for the sake of going somewhere different. He died peacefully at home Monday morning after a long battle with illness. He is preceded by his brothers Walter and Hank. A loving husband, father and father figure too many that had the opportunity to know him, he is survived by his wife Evelyn and his only daughter Shannon, his nephew William and nieces Rose Lynn and Eloise, and his sister-in-law Ruby Bergeron. The family wishes to thank VITAS hospice for assisting them in making his last months comfortable and full of interesting people with whom he crossed paths. A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Saturday December 3 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until the time of service. Interment will follow the service at Volusia Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 2381 Mason Avenue, Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32117. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL.
