Howard C. Bowman, affectionately known as "Bo" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023, in Gulfport, MS, at the age of 101. Born on June 20, 1922, in Dry Prong, LA, Howard led a life marked by kindness, generosity, patience, and forgiveness.
A proud graduate of Louisiana State University, Howard earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1962. He served his country with distinction in the U.S. Navy before embarking on a successful career as a Senior Research Scientist at Bell Labs, where his contributions were numerous and significant.
Howard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mildred Christine Cole Bowman, and his parents, Horace Bowman and Sarah Nugent Bowman. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his daughters, Norma Bell (and husband John Gruehl), Barbara Diltz (and spouse Michelle Morgan), and Marnie Stutts (and spouse Scott); his grandchildren, David Michael Bell (and wife Ali), Jon Bell (and wife Sarah), David C Diltz (and wife Jacqueline), and Christine Diltz; and his great-grandchildren, Moritz, Nikita, Matthew, Brian, Elliott, Lauren, and Natalie.
Those who knew Howard will remember him as an avid reader who cherished time spent with family and friends. He found joy in activities on the water, gardening, and carpentry, always eager to share these passions with others. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, on January 16, 2024. Visitation will commence at 9:00 AM, followed by a service at 9:30 AM. Interment will take place at 2:00 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, College Park Baptist Church, or Drowzydawg Rescue, in honor of Howard's life and legacy.
Howard will be laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida.
