Elena Frances (nee: Carilli) Iannacone, was born to Pasquale and Frances Carilli on December 16, 1919, in Suffolk, Massachusetts. On September 30, 2023, at the age of 103, she passed peacefully from this life to her eternal home with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was greeted by her parents, 3 sisters, and husband, as well as many other family and friends.
Elena was the beloved mother of daughters, Marie (Paul) Macdonald, and Linda Killingsworth, and son, David (Penny) Iannacone, the adored Grandmother of Todd Macdonald and his former spouse Daisy, Ted (Meghan) Macdonald, Holly (Jeff) Wallgren, David (Nicole) Iannacone, the caring Great Grandmother of Jessica Araujo, Zachary Wallgren, Nicholas Wallgren, Isaac Wallgren, Ella Wallgren, Tia Macdonald, Della Macdonald, Athena Iannacone, Dahlia Iannacone, and the dear Great Great Grandmother of Pearson Araujo. Finally, she was Auntie Ellie to many Nieces, Nephews, and a treasured friend to many people.
Elena was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Domenic Iannacone; parents, Pasquale and Frances Carilli; and sisters Florence (Bud) Leonardi, Grace (Fred) Wright, and Patricia (Bob) McKenney.
Elena completed her high school education at Milton High School, graduating in the year 1938. She decided to pursue further education and enrolled in college when she was 40 years old, where she earned a degree in teaching. Following her academic pursuits, in 1961, Elena embarked on her teaching career, accepting a position as a 2nd grade teacher at St. Lawrence Parochial School in North Miami Beach, Florida. Remarkably, she maintained close connections with many of her students, utilizing Facebook to sustain these relationships even up to a few weeks ago.
Some of Elena’s hobbies included being an avid Miami Dolphin’s fan, oil painting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and bowling. Elena was actively involved in many women’s clubs, including the Marionetes, and volunteered at the Prince of Peace “Like New Shop” in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she and her husband Domenic lived for 26 years.
Elena moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, after her husband died and stayed active during her years as a resident of Merrywood and Shad’s Landing independent living complexes. She loved Wii bowling, Bingo, Pokeno, many different card games and other activities.
Throughout her life, Elena was a wise counselor to a multitude of friends and acquaintances. She loved living life, meeting new people, and making friends. All who knew her would say she lit up a room and didn’t know a stranger. Her absence leaves a void in the hearts of many and she will be missed by all who know her. Our comfort is in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones
