Upon graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and served in the Pacific with the 509th Composite Group which was formed to drop the atomic bomb on Japan.
After his military service he attended and graduated from the University of Florida.
His early career was in merchandising. He became the manager of the Belk-Lindsey Department Store in Palatka, FL.
He was called into active duty with the Air Force Reserves during the Korean War and served in southern France.
After the war, he made a career change, going into Commercial Real Estate Development, working for American Oil Co. in southern Florida and southern California; Dunkin Donuts in southern California and Public Storage in southern California.
In 1981 Ed returned to Florida with his wife to work for Miller Enterprises, Inc., Handy Way Convenience Stores in Real Estate Development until his retirement.
He was an affable, well liked and loved man with a quick wit.
Ed was a former member of Dixie Squares Square Dance Club in Daytona Beach. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, where he was active in the Sunday School Dept.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dot; sons, Bob (Sherri), of Minn., and Don (Susan), British Columbia; grandson, Jake of British Columbia; step-grandson, Doug (Krista) of Ft. Wainwright, AK; step-granddaughters; Courtney Gill of S.C., Lauren Dimmitt (Michael) of California and Sarah Pallotte of California and four step great-grandchildren; his brother Freeman (Ann) of Clearwater, FL; niece, Jan Sullivan (Alan) of Tenn. and a great niece and nephew.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Edwin’s memory to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
