Barbara N MacLeod

Barbara Nehring MacLeod passed away on August 9, 2022, surrounded by her family. Barbara was born January 8, 1923, in New York, New York, to Paul and Lillian Irene Nehring. She was predeceased by her parents, sister and husbands, John (Jack) J. Upchurch III and Cyril (Scotty) MacLeod.

Barbara grew up in Bronxville, New York. She was mentored in the art of social graces and at the age of 18 was presented as a debutant. She had an affinity for animals, especially horses. She also excelled in academics.

Barbara was attending Wellesley College when she met and married Jack, a cadet at West Point. She transitioned to army life, which included two several year stints in Germany with her young sons.

Barbara lived in New Jersey until retiring to Ormond Beach in 1981 with her second husband, Scotty. She was an avid reader, crossword solver and bridge player. She was a member of New Horizons, the Halifax Yacht Club, and Oceanside Country Club. And she was active in several bridge clubs.

Barbara was most proud of her family. She is survived by three sons and one daughter … John J. Upchurch (Karen), Paul N. Upchurch (Rosaria), Richard D. Upchurch (Susan) and Lois I. Lang, all of Ormond Beach. In addition, she is survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Barbara will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank her much valued caretakers, Barbara, Sophia, Eva, Jolanta, and Sue, who cared for her with love and compassion, enabling her to live her final years, as she wanted, in her own home.

There will be a private burial for family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Halifax Humane Society.
