A celebration of life for Barbara Watts Kennedy, 77, of Ormond Beach, FL, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family February 22, 2011 at Bishop's Glen Healthcare Center, will be Sunday, February 27, 2011, 2:00 pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, with the Reverend Mark Spivey as the celebrant.
Barbara was a loving and devoted wife to Truman H. Kennedy for 37 years. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling, antiquing, collecting cookbooks, reading and spending time with her loved ones. Barbara graduated from Mainland High School, and later attended the Mary Karl Vocational Nursing Program and became an L.P.N. After several years of nursing, she went back to college and became a Nursing Home Administrator.
Barbara was born in Bradenton, FL and moved to Daytona Beach as a young girl. She was, as a teenager, Miss Port Orange. Barbara's adult life accomplishments were many, but most notably, listed in Outstanding Young Women of America, a member of the Florida State Board of Nursing, a member of the American College of Nursing Home Administrators, and she also served on the D.B.C.C. Nursing Advisory Board. Barbara served as the Administrator to Huntington Square Convalarium for many years, as well as Holiday Care Center, and other facilities around the state of Florida. She was also a nursing home inspector for several years.
Barbara was the devoted mother to seven children. A daughter, Susan E. DelPercio pre-deceased her mother. Barbara leaves behind, not only her grieving husband, but a son, Michael Siebenaler, Ormond Beach, a daughter, Deirdre (Dede) Siebenaler, Ormond Beach, a daughter, Michele D. Goff, Raleigh, N.C., a step-son, Patrick Kennedy, Hobe Sound, a step-son, Charles Kennedy, Ormond Beach, and a step-daughter, Ginger Hoffman, St. Augustine. Barbara also leaves behind a sister, Ginger (James) Shaddix, Astor, a brother, James (Sarah) Galbreath, Astor, and sister-in-law, Emily Galbreath of Buchanan, VA. Barbara was blessed with 10 beautiful grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. The family dog, Blackie, who never left her side when she was home, is also left behind to grieve the loss of the mama that gave him the most loving home he could have ever been blessed with. The family would also like to thank the very compassionate caregivers of Bishops Glen, for their love and support of not only Barbara, but her family members.
