Ann Therese Monahan passed away at the Villages Hospital on Saturday, July 8, 2017. She succumbed to Chemotherapy after surviving successful colon cancer surgery in April. Ann Therese Tetlak was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 4, 1937. She graduated High School from St. Mary's academy in Monroe, Michigan in June of 1955. Ann then went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She then taught in San Diego, California. She returned to the Detroit area in 1963 to continue teaching. In 1968 she moved to the Washington, D.C. Area to teach at Francis Scott Key Junior High in Landover, Maryland. In the summer of 1968 she met the love of her life and future husband, James Monahan at the beach in Rehobeth Beach, DE. They began dating in January of 1972 and were married on Nov. 17, 1972 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Arlington, Va. Molly Ann Monahan was born at Sibly Hospital in Washington, D.C. in September of 1973. Ann, Molly and Jim then moved to Ormond Beach, Florida in the spring of 1974. Patrick Francis was born in Nov of 1974 followed by Michael Conrad in March of 1976 and Rose Christine in August of 1977. While busily raising her four small children, Ann found the perseverance and dedication to earn a Master's Degree in reading education from NOVA University. Ann was an avid reader and loved to travel but her favorite past time was spoiling her grandchildren. The family attended and were active in St Brendan's Parish in Ormond Beach. The children received the sacraments under the guidance of Father Dunlevy, Father Flynn, Father Con Shine and Father Sean Shine. They met many wonderful friends at St. Brendan's and were especially close to Joan and Art Cavanaugh who were life time friends. In addition to her husband and four children Ann is survived by four grandchildren - James Monahan (9), Samantha Monahan (8) , Luann Monahan (4) and Ronald Thomas (2 mo.). She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Angie Monahan and two son-in laws, Matthew Waldeck and Russell Thomas. She is also survived by her loving older brother, Joseph Tetlak of Bratenahl, Ohio. Ann will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at St. Brendan Catholic Church 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd Ormond Beach. Inurnment will follow in Volusia Memorial Park Ormond Beach. In lieu of flowers the family request that a donation be made to St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlin, SD in Ann's name. Arrangements are under the direction of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL.
