Susan Arnold Edwards

Edwards, Susan Arnold (Edwards) of Orleans, MA, passed away on September 22, 2021, twelve days after her 89th birthday. She was the dear daughter of the late Foster and Madeline (Stevens) Edwards and the loving sister of Steven Edwards of Falls Church, VA.

After graduating from Hingham High School in Hingham, Massachusetts, she expanded her lifelong passion of learning by earning her Bachelors of Science degree in education at Russell Sage College in Troy, NY, class of 1955. Susan returned to Russell Sage College, to work with in admissions assisting and mentoring young women as they navigated their college education through the 1970’s. Later, she then was given the opportunity to become the Director of Admissions at Emma Willard School in Troy, NY, soon becoming an integral part of the elite prep school for girls. Susan enjoyed many years of her career after as Head of the Brimmer and May School in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts which was her ultimate and most important career position. After Susan left Brimmer May she leaned toward retirement, but the Lincoln School in Providence, RI badly wanted her as College Placement Dean and even offered a small cottage as on campus "quarters". She accepted and thoroughly enjoyed her last teaching years there. It lasted quite a few years and when the "school head" retired she also left for the Cape and full retirement.

Susan retired to Orleans, where she enjoyed the sound of the waves at Nauset Beach and the beautiful sunsets of Skaket Beach. She kept herself busy volunteering at the Hope Chest and the Hidden Gem in Orleans, MA, spending many hours with good friends and a glass of wine or a quiet Sunday morning with a crossword puzzle and an afternoon Patriot's game. She will be remembered for her poise, sparkling blue eyes, her love of boxer dogs, and her owls who were her good luck charms. She will be missed by all who knew her. Susan leaves behind her brother Capt. Steven H. Edwards and wife Lois in Falls Church, VA: nephews Randall H. Edwards, wife Apryl and children Foster and Wilder in Canton, GA, and Scott A. Edwards, Jamie Edwards and children Seaton and Baila in Cumming, GA.
