Shirley M. (Carter) Thomas

Shirley M. (Carter) Thomas of Orleans, MA, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023 at the age of 96. Born in Hackensack, NJ, Shirley is one of six children born to William MacLean and Georgianna Stewart MacLean. She is predeceased by a brother William and sisters Barbara and Jeanne. She leaves behind two brothers, David (Cindy) MacLean of Ithaca, NY and John (Judith) MacLean of Williamsburg, VA. After high school, Shirley attended Adelphi University where she earned a BSN and worked as a Registered Nurse throughout her life. She was a resident of Orleans, MA for the last 28 years. Shirley was a strong and devoted servant of God, and a faithful member of the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church.

Shirley is predeceased by her first husband, George H. Carter III, with whom she spent 36 years and raised three children: George H. Carter IV (deceased), Anne Carter Weiss (Michael) of SD, Barbara Carter Daignault of Holden, MA. She is also predeceased by her second husband, Harold C. Thomas, with whom she enjoyed 9 years.

Shirley was an adored, fun loving and vibrant grandmother, who also leaves behind six grandchildren Benjamin, Matthew and David Weiss of SD, Kenneth and Carter Daignault of FL and Kaitlyn Daignault of Worcester, MA. She was also blessed with eight great grandchildren; Kyra, Mason, Paisley, Roman, Vivian, Carson, Harper and Hudson Weiss of SD.

Shirley was a kind, loving and compassionate woman of faith, who gave generously of herself to many causes, charities and rescues. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice that enriches the lives of others. A celebration of Shirley's life will take place on Tuesday, Sep. 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church, 3600 Main St, Brewster, MA 02631.
