Robert Edward Elliott, 76, of Eastham, Massachusetts died on December 21, 2019. Bob was a loving and dedicated husband of almost 52 years to his wife Barbara as well as a devoted father to his children, Liz and Chris. He loved Liz’s husband Jon and Chris’ wife Julie and his three grandchildren, Sam, Jane, and Luke. Born in Hume, New York, in 1943, he was the oldest of five children to the late Everett and Sarabel Elliott. His four siblings, Jim Elliott, Janet Arendt, Sharon Swanson and John Elliott, were very dear to his heart.
Bob graduated in 1965 from Houghton College and later attended William Patterson College and Columbia University, obtaining degrees in mathematics and education. He taught, tutored, and supervised mathematics for almost 40 years in Teaneck, New Jersey. He loved teaching and was so proud of the community in which he lived and taught. Bob had many interests and talents, including photography, tennis, technology, music and travel. In high school, he built a dark room in the only bathroom in his house so he could develop his photos. He spent countless hours with his kids throwing or hitting a ball and watching them participate in sports. He embraced new technologies at home and at work, including the Atari 800, Palm Pilot, and the TI-81 graphing calculator. As a member of the New York Oratorio Society, Bob sang in Carnegie Hall and in cathedrals around the world. He and Barbara retired to Cape Cod, where he sang in the Chatham Chorale, the Outer Cape Chorale, the NoteAbles and his church choir. When he wasn’t singing, he was either listening to music or whistling around the house.
Bob was dedicated to his church throughout his life. He loved his dogs Barney and Cooper and appreciated a great cup of coffee. During his retirement, he loved to travel the world with Barbara and to visit with his kids in New Jersey and California.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Bob on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 1 pm at the United Methodist Church in Orleans, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, you can donate to the United Methodist Church in Orleans, MA (http://www.orleansumc.org) or to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod (Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod).
