Robert H. Brown Sr., 84, of Eastham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Friday, March 21, 2025. Born on June 10, 1940, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he was the son of George Brown and Helena C. Viveiros.
Bobs strong work ethic was evident from a young age. He began working at his family’s business, Brown’s Egg Farm in East Freetown, Massachusetts, and took on multiple jobs in his youth, including a book bindery and a shoe mill. These early experiences shaped his dedication to hard work and perseverance throughout his life.
Bob met the love of his life, Viola, in elementary school, and their connection grew into a beautiful lifelong partnership. Married for 60 years, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family. Bobs legacy lives on through his children: Bobby Jr., Lauralee and her husband Herb Stockford , George Sr., and John and his late wife Christine. His Grandchildren: Kyle Brown (his sons Brody and Carter), Alyssa and her husband Mike Handren, Abigail and Emma Stockford, George Brown Jr. (his son Grant), and Ariel (her children Bella, Bindi, and Gunnar), and Alexis Williamsen.
For years, Bob traveled to Cape Cod for work in the gift shop business. In 1976, he took a leap and opened his own business, The Gift Barn, in Eastham. After establishing the store’s success, he and his family moved to Eastham full-time, where he became a pillar of the local business community. Known for his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, he earned the respect of customers, colleagues, and fellow business owners.
Beyond his work, Bob had a passion for Ford Model A’s, spending countless hours restoring and admiring these vintage automobiles. He also loved boating off his dock in the cove, where he found peace and enjoyment on the water. These hobbies brought him great joy and allowed him to share special moments with family and friends.
Bob was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge, where he formed many lasting friendships. With a sharp sense of humor and a vibrant spirit, he brought joy to those around him. He had many close friends, whom he cherished deeply, and was always ready with a laugh or a story. He worked hard all his life but always made time for the things he loved, including spending winters in Florida, where he embraced the sunshine and relaxation.
Bobs legacy of hard work, laughter, and love for his family will be forever cherished. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The immediate family will be holding a private ceremony to honor Bobs life. Friends and loved ones are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life at the Eastham Elks Club on Saturday, May 3rd, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.
