Richard N. Smith Jr.

ORLEANS – Richard N. Smith Jr., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 13, 2017. He was born in Eastham, MA and lived in South Orleans his entire life. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. After his honorable discharge Richard worked at First National Grocery store and then the A&P in Orleans. He later joined the Orleans Police Department as a full time officer in 1969 and retired in 2000 after 32 years of service.

Richard was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Eileen (Bennett) who died in 2009. He was a dedicated father to his daughter Patricia Corbett and her husband Peter of Brewster; sons, Richard of Orleans and Jim of La Jolla, CA; he loved being “Grandpa Cats” to his two granddaughters, Beki Corbett of Eastham and Amy Heisler and her husband Sean of Harwich; adoring great grandchildren, Bryson and Scarlett of Eastham. He also leaves behind his sister Sally Coughlan.

Visiting hours will be held from 4p-7p on Thursday, August 17th, 2017 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA 02653. A committal service will take place at 11am on Friday, August 18th in the Orleans Cemetery.
