Neil J. Roberts of Orleans, Massachusetts, passed away in his sleep in the early morning of June 23rd, 2023. He was 76. He passed in his home after a wonderful night of dinner, drink, and laughter with his nephew Tim and great-nephew Connor. He died as he lived – on his terms.
Neil leaves behind his two sons Daniel Roberts and Joshua Roberts, his daughter-in-law Sara Roberts, Josh’s partner Leah Park, his grandchildren Maddison Mae Roberts and Aurelia Reina Roberts, his nieces Kathy Diamadi and Tracy Roberts and their families, his nephews Ben Roberts and Tim Roberts and their families, his sister-in-law Mary Lee Roberts, his close friend Sally Lamson, and his faithful Yardarm compadres.
Neil follows his brothers Arthur and Bill into the beyond. If there is another place, there is every chance he is with them. He was most himself around his brothers – witty, boisterous and proud.
A voracious reader of history, Neil had a memory that was best described as a “steel trap.” He was an honest man who sought freedom and selflessness. He often said, “everything in moderation, even moderation.”
Neil was a small-town lawyer on Cape Cod for 50 years. He had a rebel heart and was always rooting for the underdog. He would take almost any case, often paid in whatever his clients could muster, including future favors, shellfish, and even a canoe.
Neil loved his sons with all his heart. His quiet affection was shown through actions. He put over 500,000 miles on multiple cars driving Danny and Josh around the east coast playing soccer and hockey. Through sports, he taught his sons about life.
Neil will be dearly missed by his family and friends. It’s the end of an era – Arty, Billy and now Neily are gone.
Farewell Dad, Uncle Neil, Grampy Neil, Neily – we love you.
