Born October 13, 1929 in Honolulu, Hawaii to parents Robert S. and Nancy (Nilsen) Kuhne, she was predeceased by her husband John D. DuRie, her brother Robert G. Kuhne and her step daughter Nancy Bernstein. Nancy is survived by her sister in law Barbara (Spangler) Kuhne of Los Banos, California and four children; Susan Pepin of Boston, Massachusetts, Karen Forzley (Chuck) of Wells, Maine, David DuRie (Fay) of Redding, Connecticut and Bob DuRie (Susan Dale) of Attleboro, Massachusetts. Nancy had four grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Nancy was a 39 year resident of Orleans, Massachusetts where she was an avid gardener and nature enthusiast. Nancy liked to birdwatch and walk the trails all throughout the Cape. While at home, she was always busy with needlepoint, cross-stitch, knitting and quilting projects. Nancy was one of three founding members of the Phi Beta Pi Carnation Circle of
Cape Cod and a past board member of Snow Point Homeowners Association, in Orleans.
Nancy grew up in Hawaii where she made many life-long friendships. She graduated from the Punahou School in 1947 and traveled back to Honolulu many times, most recently for her 70th class reunion in 2017. She graduated from Goucher College in Towson, Maryland in 1951 and following graduation worked as an analyst in New York City for The Conference Board and then Vick Chemical Company. Nancy was married to John D. DuRie on June 27, 1953 in Scarsdale, New York and together they raised a family in Old Greenwich, Connecticut until 1980 when they relocated to Cape Cod. Nancy was a recurrent Sunday School teacher and Deaconess at the First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich, a Troop leader with the Girl Scouts of America and supported a variety of youth swimming activities. Nancy was an avid golfer and paddle tennis player. She enjoyed both sports as a member of The Milbrook Club in Greenwich.
A private memorial service will be held at the Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans, Massachusetts. Private burial will follow at the Orleans Cemetery.
