1934-2017
Mary Ann Quinn, 82 passed away at home on Saturday April 22nd, cared for and surrounded by her loving family. Her family members and close friends mourn her passing and celebrate her life filled with memories and joy.
Born Mary Anne Masaschi on December 5th, 1934 in Chatham, MA, the daughter of Coast Guard Veteran Frank Masaschi and Avis (Nickerson) Masaschi. She grew up as one of five children and moved with her family as her father was stationed in Chatham, Nantucket, Block Island and the Cape Cod area.
She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, Warren E. Quinn of Orleans, MA, whom she met in 1952 at the Reno Dinner in Orleans, married in 1954 and then birthed and raised their five children. Their epic love story has inspired many as they stood by each other through their life's delights and trials. Warren remained close by her side throughout her last days and is grateful to all of the friends and family for their support and words of comfort.
Mary Ann attended nursing school at Cape Cod Hospital and then followed with a brief career as a nurse at Cape Cod Hospital and North Hampton Mental Hospital. Her life's work included Manager at the Cotten Tail Cottages for 25 years in East Orleans and volunteering in her later years at the Cape and Islands EMS Thrift store in Orleans.
Her surviving family include her last living brother, David Masaschi and her children, Lucinda Deschamps, Sandra Larsen, David Quinn, James Quinn and Thomas Quinn. Additionally, her six grandchildren and four great-grand children with two more great-grandchildren expected this year. She also "Mothered" nieces and nephews, extended family and loving friends whom she cherished and adored every day until her last moments.
Affectionately known as Mema, she leaves us with everlasting memories and a legacy of unfailing dignity and unconditional love. Her passion was her family and she was well known for her large family dinners where she wouldn't sit down "until everyone had something on their plate."
Her favorite pastime was taking long walks with her treasured dogs on the Town Cove beach, where she lived for many years with Warren and their family. She also held a special place in her heart for all of Mother Nature's creatures. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sampson fund at www.sampsonfund.org, which is an animal foundation that Mary Ann was very passionate about.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 11:00 AM in the Orleans Cemetery.
