Graduating from Weymouth High School in 1938 and Chandler School for Women in 1940, Marjorie first worked as a secretary to the General Manager of Bethlehem Steele Shipbuilding in Quincy. In 1943, she married Richard H Douglas, who predeceased her in 1985. Marge followed her husband to his various Army Air Corp training bases in the US, returning home to await the birth of the first of their 7 children.
Marjorie is survived by her seven children, Dawn E (Robert) Mason of Billerica, MA; R Kent (Joan), Steven G (Diane) and Philip H (Mary Anne), all of Eastham, MA; Scott Q (Mary) of Ventura, CA; Jean D (Steve) Baranowski of Norwell, MA; and Bruce W (Patty) of Freeland, MD. Also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Kris (Nate) Knight of Orleans, MA; Rich Douglas, Steve Douglas, Kate (Brian) Remmey, and Kyle Douglas of Eastham, MA; Sarah Douglas of Ventura, CA; Kim Baranowski of Norwell, MA; Kara Douglas-Evans (Roger), Jimmy Douglas, Laura Douglas of Freeland, MD, and Bryan Douglas of San Diego, CA; as well as 6 great-grandchildren. Marjorie was predeceased by her brothers, Karl A (Enez) Gardner of Northridge, CA and R Winston (Elizabeth) Gardner of Eastham, MA. Margie was accomplished at quilting, needlepoint, and knitting. Her meticulous works ranged from sweaters and outfits for her family; needlepoint art pieces, to quilting of wall hangings, bed quilts and table runners. She was a member of the Bayberry Quilters Guild, where her quilt works were frequently exhibited.
Marge worked for many years at Hutzler’s Department Store in Towson, MD, where they lived for 16 years, returning to their North Eastham cottage each summer. After retiring to North Eastham in 1981, Marge enjoyed traveling, often with friends at the Eastham Council on Aging (COA), where she volunteered for many years. Most recently, Marjorie resided at Liberty Commons in Chatham, MA where she received loving care the past two years.
In lieu of flowers, Marjorie requested memorial donations be made to the Eastham COA.
