ORLEANS – Marion B. Lai, 70, of Orleans, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 17, 2012. Born in New Sweden, Maine, she was the daughter of the late John and Grace (Skidgel) Johnson. She leaves behind her husband of 42 years, David Lai.
She met her husband David while he was stationed in Limestone, Maine. Together they had a blended family of six. She moved to the Cape in 1984, just prior to her husband’s retirement from the military. She loved the beach and gardening. Known for her green thumb she was probably one of the first to grow upside down tomatos on the Cape, fashioning her own pots and growing them in the mid 80’s. Well known for her outgoing personality, nurturing ways and for being very straight forward. She looked forward to her occasional trips to Foxwoods.
Marion was a life member of the VFW auxiliary and a member of the American Legion and Disabled Veterans Auxiliaries. She touched many lives and will be missed. Everyone who knew her loved her and called her mom.
Besides her husband, she is survived by their daughter, Katherine Edwards of Orleans, MA, Barbara Yepes of Rome, NY; son, Brian Beede of NH; stepson, David Lai of Watauga, TX; stepdaughter, Andrea Dunk of Ontario, Canada; sister, Irma LeBlond and her husband Lorenzo of Livermore Falls, Maine; grandchildren, Ariana and Troy Moineau of Orleans, Britteny Lai of Watauga, TX, Kelsey and Cody Lai of Gun barrel City, TX. She was predeceased by her son David Beede.

Visiting hours will be held from 3p-6p on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. A Funeral Service will follow at 6pm in the funeral home.
There will be a Celebration of Marion's life in the spring at the Brewster VFW.
