Lincoln (Linc) Reed Proctor departed this life on July 8, 2024 after a brief illness. Born on February 27, 1945 to Eugene (dec.) and Imogene Proctor (dec.) in Melrose, Ma., Linc/Linky is predeceased by his sister Denise, and is survived by his brother Eugene.
Linc was a longtime resident of East Dennis, where he continued to make lasting friendships due to his charismatic, loyal, yet private personality. He moved to the Cape in the 1960’s to work as a commercial fisherman. He was a member of the Fisherman’s Coop in Chatham, and was the Captain of the one-man crew of the “Bobolink”. After taking an off-season job with the Hall Oil Company he began a career as a highly skilled technician that lasted over 50 years with the same employer.
He was known as a great storyteller and would regale his friends and family with fantastic stories of unimaginable, yet very real local and regional events. He was devoted to his adored golden retriever and cat companions, notably “Jigger”, “Comfort” “Louie”, “Oreo, “Chapin”, and “Moonshine”. In his “retirement” he farmed a million-seed oyster grant in Crowe’s Pasture on the Quivet River. He also loved having fish as pets, and had a particular affinity for the African Cichlid.
This kind, generous, and caring soul will be sorely missed by many. A Gathering of Remembrance will take place beside the Quivet Creek at the “Big Rock” at Crowes Pasture (west side) at 11am on July 23 to which friends and relatives are invited to share their memories of a man beloved as a “gentle giant.”
