Havlin, John J. of Brewster, formerly a resident of Wellesley, passed at the age of 90 on August 24, 2014. Born in Brighton, he attended BC High and Boston College. His college education and pride in playing football at BC were put on hold so he could serve his country in WWII. Jack served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre. With the love of his life, Rita M Sullivan, he was a devoted parent. Rita preceded him in death in 1998. Jack’s daughters, Ann MacFarland of Dataw, S.C. and Linda Havlin of Chicago, thank him for his unconditional love, never failing support and sense of humor. He adored his grandchildren, Sarah Travers, Kristen Kirkland, and Todd Boulis and his great grandchildren, Maggie, Rhys, Olivia, and Jack. He also leaves a dear friend, Sue Lee.
Jack co-founded the Corcoran and Havlin Insurance Agency and later joined Deland Gibson. A scratch golfer, he loved playing at Eastward Ho. He served as the club’s treasurer and received the McClennan Award for his service.
Services will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Stand Up for Heroes – The Bob Woodruff Foundation to help injured veterans who have bravely served our country. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
