John Allen Beardsley was born on October 27, 1927 in Stratford, CT. Growing up just steps from the Housatonic River, early he found a lifelong love for boating, bird hunting, and nature. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1946, and served in the United States Army upon graduation.
John was often called “Cookie” by those who knew him well, and “John Boy” by his beloved wife of 71 years, the fabulous, Lynda Danielson Beardsley. They met working at Manning, Maxwell, and Moore, and were mere acquaintances until Lynda moved onto a new opportunity, and Cookie decided to give her a call. The rest was history.
A creative and efficient problem-solver, he worked steadily towards an engineering degree from the University of Bridgeport, graduating in 1971. In the meantime, he and Lynda would have three children, Jeffrey Beardsley, Beth Tippett, and Lisa Sullivan, with four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren to follow.
They lived in Connecticut for most of their lives, though their hearts were always on Cape Cod. In 1996, they went from campers to building their forever home nestled in the woods by Nickerson State Park, where John lived happily until his passing on Sunday, July 7, 2024. While he savored each day on Earth, he took his final breaths knowing he and Lynda would be united in the Lord's eternity.
He will be remembered fondly for his love of sunsets, ocean swims, clamming, travel, a good dessert, dogs, and doing-it-yourself. If you have a story to share about John, Lynda would love to hear it and welcomes your call or note. On July 23rd, family and friends are invited to gather at 220 Holly Ave in Brewster to honor the life and passing of John Allen Beardsley. A service will begin at 4 pm with a celebration of memories, Army honor guard, dinner and refreshments through the evening. Kindly RSVP to Beth at 401-439-8749 or Lisa at 203-615-3866.
