Jeanne grew up in Cranston, RI, was a high school cheerleader and often made her own dresses. She enjoyed summers on Narragansett Bay, swimming and acting as crew on beetle cat sailboats from the Edgewood Yacht Club.
Jeanne graduated from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and later attended Hartford University where she took courses to further her medical career. She worked at several local hospitals, specializing in Operating Room Supervision.
Jeanne married her husband, Rogers J. Rice, in 1980, and they enjoyed trips to the West Indies where they chartered bareboats in the Caribbean Ocean. Plus their other travels took them to Canada, Europe, Mexico and the Hawaiian Islands. She also enjoyed playing golf at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster.
Jeanne is survived by her husband Rogers J. Rice; three children: Allen Tefft of Annondale, VA, Nancy Walker and husband Gary of S. Windsor, CT, William Tefft and wife Lisa of Windsor, CT. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Andy and Katie. Jeanne is also survived by six step-children: Thomas Rice and wife Jeanne of Far Hills, NJ, Susan Arthars and husband Michael of Peapack, NJ, Amy Rice of Eastham, MA, Carol Miranda and husband Jamie of Richmond, VA, Sally Rice of Falmouth, MA, and William Rice of Mt. Bethel, PA; and five step-grandchildren: Nicholas, Matthew, Jessica, Amber, and Shaina.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11th at 11 AM at Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans, followed by burial at Brewster Lower Road Cemetery.
A reception will follow at Freemans Grill at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster.
