James was born in Brooklyn, NY March 29, 1925. He was a loving son, pre-deceased by his parents James and Evelyn Vassar of Daytona Beach, FL.
James had a lengthy career as a Personnel Manager at Algonquin Gas Transmission Company. He was employed for 35 years before retiring in 1987.
James attended Sawanka High School in Stewart Manor on Long Island, NY. In 1944 James enlisted in the US Army. He served his country with distinction, serving in the Pacific during WWII. He was a Purple Heart recipient after being wounded in the leg. James returned home after the war in 1946. He married Louise Moses who passed away in 1972. He later married Dorothy Corrigan who passed away in 1986. Later he married Ellen Griffith who passed away in 2009. He attended night school and received his BA from Northeastern University. Among others things, James was a golfer, loved building furniture at home and was active with his many grandchildren.
James had 11 children and is survived by Richard & Diane Vassar of Amherst NH, Lynn & Mike San Filippo of Hobe Sound, FL, Laura & Greg Particelli of Framingham, MA, James & Leslie Botsford of Orleans, MA, Scott & Jennifer Griffith of New Orleans, LA, Elizabeth Griffith of Hyannis, MA, David & Karen Griffith of Halifax, MA, Cynthia & Tony Clayton of Arlington, MA, Rebecca Griffith of Portland, OR, and Dan & Vicky Griffith of Braintree, MA. He was predeceased by Patricia Griffith of Hingham, MA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday August, 17 at 4 PM at Nickerson Funeral Home 77 Eldredge Parkway, Orleans, MA. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity in James’s name.
