ORLEANS - James F. Higgins, 31, of Orleans, passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2013. He was the beloved son of James H. and Frances (Kent) Higgins.
James was born on November 29, 1981 and graduated from Nauset Regional High School in 2000. When he was young he enjoyed four wheeling, bike racing and played in the Lower Cape Youth Hockey League. He worked as a carpenter beginning his career in high school and working up until January 2008. He had worked on the lobster boat, the “William Bowe” out of Hyannis, and was a mate on several charter boats in Rock Harbor. He owned a lobster business Loon Cry LLC, and felt the freedom of being where he was able to overcome and compensate the obstacles he faced from a serious accident he had in 2008. He loved the outdoors and all it had to offer. He was so looking forward to the upcoming lobster season and getting back out on the waters off shore and doing what he loved. Jimmy was a very thoughtful, considerate, caring person, always there for everyone. Jimmy was also a member of the order of Masons.
He is survived by his parents James and Frances Higgins, a brother; Joseph S. Higgins and his wife Amber Lee; sister, Eliza Valentin and her husband Justin; niece, Arabella Higgins; and a nephew Jonah Higgins; his grandmother, Mary Louise Kent of Eastham, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to: The Orleans Police Association or The Orleans Fire and Rescue.
A memorial visitation will be held from 11a-2p on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. A Masonic service will begin at 2pm with a memorial service immediately following.
