Born in East Orange New Jersey, Jim grew up in North Plainfield and he received his BS in Accounting from Rutgers University, and his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Additionally he attended the Harvard School of Public Health – Program for Financial Management and Strategy for Health.
Jim leaves Cassandra, his wife of 49 years, 15 nieces and nephews and 24 grand nieces and nephews and two great grands, all of whom enjoyed Jim’s Barn at one time or another.
Jim began his career as a Senior Accountant at Joseph J. Seaman & Company, CPA, and then as a Registered Municipal Accountant auditing both hospitals and municipal functions at Rosenthal and Attinger, CPA’s. He started his hospital career at Mountainside Hospital rising to Vice President of Finance with a broad range of responsibilities. At Morristown Memorial Hospital he became a Senior Vice President of Finance as well as a member of the Board of Trustees. He developed and implemented the state mandated Diagnosis Related Group Reimbursement System and related reports and management systems with medical staff developing effective cost controls. As President of Atlantic Health Systems, Inc. he organized an eight hospital system to achieve cost savings, clinical efficiencies and a regional managed care programs.
In addition, Jim was active in his community as a Trustee and then President of the Board of Trustees at The Matheny School/Hospital (for developmentally and neurologically impaired children) a trustee for Camp Nejeda Foundation (work with diabetic children), Fin. Com. Member, Center for Addictive Illnesses and various Health groups including New Jersey Hospital Financial Management Association as past Director and Vice President, Jim also participated in Rotary Club and Mendham Golf and Tennis Club. When Jim retired to Orleans in 1995 he worked with Dr. Bickford to establish a clinic that has become the Duffy Clinic in Hyannis. He also participated in the Friends of Orleans Affordable Housing, his church and enjoyed playing a little golf at Ocean Edge.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 5th from 2:00 to 4:00 at Nickerson Funeral Home on Eldredge Park Way, Orleans. The Funeral Service will be on Monday, March 6th, at 11:00 at the Orleans United Methodist Church on the corner of Route 28 and Main Street, Interment will take place following the Service at the Orleans Cemetery on Tonset Road.
