She was born in Waterbury, CT in 1919. She and her mother and sister moved to Lynn after her father died in 1926. She served in the Women’s Army Corp during World War II and was stationed in England and France when she met her husband John.
Helen was the 36th women to be awarded the Bronze Star. She will be buried with Military Honors. After John died in 1974, Helen and her mother, Ann Whittaker, settled in Orleans.
She loved watching “her” ducks in the pond behind her house. She loved her dogs and thrift shops. Helen volunteered at St. Joan of Arc Thrift Shop for over 25 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Megan Pettit and Ann Livesey both of Cape Cod.
Her visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 1-4 p.m. in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA. Burial will follow in Orleans Cemetery, Orleans, MA.
